Vote up!10 by James S. (not verified) on 10. July 2012 - 15:41 (95988)You also might want to consider adding Decoder Ring Theater to the list. They deal in "radio dramas" modeled after the old time radio shows. They currently have The Red Panda Adventures and Black Jack Justice, all done tongue firmly in cheek as well as a small rotating assortment of other various short works.

Everything is available for streaming or for MP3 download.
Vote up!17 by Jesse (not verified) on 2. July 2012 - 15:30 (95655)I'd like to nominate AmblingBooks.com for your "Best Of" listings. In your listing above you mention they have 1500 free titles, my impression was that it was more than that. Sure enough, I got in touch with the company and they said they now offer 2686, with another 2000 in the works.

Vote up!183 by Kristi (not verified) on 12. December 2011 - 17:52 (84908)You might consider adding http://www.kiddierecords.com/.>
Vote up!227Thank you. That is an excellent site, but it is in there under Kiddie Records Weekly.
Kids Audio Books has many of the same recordings, but available in one download, while some of the Kiddie Records have to be downloaded in segments.
I have downloaded some of those recordings and they are special.

Vote up!211 by Kendra (not verified) on 16. November 2011 - 20:05 (83397)I would like to say thank you for the time you have spent putting together this wonderful list of free audio books. I work for a non profit organization which assist individuals with different disabilities who enjoy books. They do not have a lot of funds and the organization does not allow a lot of spending. So again THANK YOU!!
Vote up!223 by ErikJon (not verified) on 5. November 2011 - 4:21 (82741)Friends,
Beware that the "Learn Out Loud" website seems to offer mainly "teasers", like only the first chapter of certain books, with the idea of selling you the full book itself. Moreover, many of their "audiobooks" are nothing more than brief lectures, introductions, short speeches, advertising promos, etc. Many of them were probably never even published in print. I wasted many hours there, downloading without first listening.
As for the LIBRIVOX website, most of the recordings are NOT human read, but rather DIGITAL, although perhaps the history section named above has some exceptions. So far, I have found that most of the recordings are digital, and about one in ten are indeed human read.
Vote up!214I have double checked at Learn Out Loud and you are correct. I will add a note in. I also saw that many of the links were to Audible, which no longer offers free works. This site may be removed after I look further into it.
As to Librivox, could you name a non-human read one. I just checked quite a few and they were all human read and that supposedly is their thing as the readers are all volunteers.
Thanks for the info. Your input helps to keep this list updated and relevant.
Steve
Update: I removed LOL as any complete recordings were links offsite and their offerings were just comeons to buy as you said. Overall their listings are just to bait one into their pay items.
Thanks again

I am in the process of putting together a "Best Of" listing for this book page, as well as the others. Any comments from you would be helpful in compiling these lists.

And DANG-- I can't believe the size of your collection... there's a boatload of listening here.

Vote up!245Sorry I missed this comment. When updating all the pages I do not go back to updated pages for a while, but still should have caught this.

Vote up!249 by Anonymous23 (not verified) on 5. August 2010 - 22:15 (55511)Tried the BMW audiobook cite and only got the page with the author comments. Could not get the link to the actual story to open. Can you check and comment. Thanks
Vote up!241The site has audio books. To listen to them, you need to have a podcast software, or you can use the podcast player offered on the site itself. There is a tiny little link of "listen" just below the book titles. You can click that and the podcast will play in the podcast player the site provides.

My favorite is http://www.faithcomesbyhearing.com/ They have free bibles for download in 462 languages.
The San Diego County library has audio books on-line. Most can be downloaded.

Strangest game in the history of international soccer? | factXtract Blog
The soccer game between Grenada and Barbados in 1994 is perhaps the strangest game in the history of International soccer.
The game was the last group game in a Caribbean Cup tournament in 1994. In order to reach the finals, Barbados needed to beat Grenada by at least two goals. Any score less than winning by two goals would result in Grenada going to the final. However, there were two strange rules in the cup:
1) A draw after 90 minutes would result in extra time; and
2) In the case of extra time, a golden goal would count as two goals!
During the game, Barbados took a 2-0 lead. However, Grenada scored a goal at 83′, making the score 2-1. Barbados was on the verge of elimination, unless they could score a goal, either against themselves making the score 3-1 or against Grenada, making the score 2-2 and going to the extra time. They then decided that scoring another goal against Granada is difficult, as the opponent was defending their goal by all means. Therefore, they came up with a genius solution: they scored a goal against themselves, thus taking the game to the extra time!
Now, Grenada needed to score a goal (either against themselves or Barbados) to avoid extra time and to go through to the final! The Barbados team then started defending the Grenada goal as well as to their own, until the whistle went for extra time. Barbados eventually scored the winning goal and went to the final!
Below is the 2-1 goal, the own goal to make it 2-2, and the OT winner by Barbados. Now isn’t this the strangest international soccer game ever!?
